How Do Air Cooled Heat Exchangers Work?

Air-cooled heat exchangers (ACHE), part of the broader heat exchanger family, use finned tubes to cool or condense various fluids flowing inside them. Outside the tubes, air passes around the fins to remove heat.

ACHEs come in several configurations—induced or forced draft—with different types of finned tubes, depending on the process requirements. They’re widely used in chemical, oil and gas, process, and power generation industries.

Our experienced Process & Thermal Engineers handle all thermal designs in-house using both HTRI software and our own calculation tools.

A typical ACHE scope of supply includes finned tube bundles, steel support structures, and fan drive equipment—such as axial fans, V-belt drives, bearing shafts, and electric motors. Depending on the project, we can also include auxiliary systems like control louvers (manual or automatic), semi-automatic cleaning systems, inlet/outlet piping, control instruments, valves, pumps, expansion tanks, winterization features, and other custom options.
